Some Reasons Why You Should Not Purchase Military Plaques
Over the decades, there have been some brutal debates about the rightness and wrongness of going to war. Unfortunately, after all is said and done, many people that did not serve in the armed forces want the prestige that goes with being a veteran. Today, military plaques can be purchased in many different places. You can even get medals, uniforms, and all sorts of other authentic items that were used by soldiers in combat. In some cases, people that want to collect military plaques and other memorabilia from a specific war period will do so because they are interested in that era. For the most part, these people aren't pretending to have served in a particular conflict. In fact, it is possible that some of them are actually veterans of other wars, or had family members that served in the military. That said, an increasing number of people seem to want to pretend they were in the military. Chances are, the more prestigious the combat unit is, the more people will want to pretend they were in it. As an example, 101 Airborne, MAC-V-SOG, and Navy SEALs have an unbelievable number of imposters. In many cases, these people will simply purchase military plaques, and then display them as if they earned them through legitimate military service. Today, there are laws meant to try and deal with people that claim they earned military plaques, medals, and other items in combat situations. Unfortunately, even though many get caught, others go on using their pretended status to try and influence others for various reasons. For the most part, as long as military plaques and other memorabilia exist that will match up with a person's age, there is a chance someone will try to pretend they have served in the armed forces. Aside from being illegal, it should be abundantly clear that pretending to have served in the armed forces is highly unethical. To begin with, it can easily deny a legitimate veteran their right to hold these items or express their feelings about having been in a war. While many veterans do not want so much as single reminder of their time in the military, others do set a value on having military plaques and ribbons to commemorate the campaigns that they were in. The willingness to pretend you have military honors also sends another decidedly vulgar message. Basically, pretending you, or a family member, have earned the right to display military plaques sends a message that you think wasting human lives in warfare is justifiable in any and all situations. Sadly enough, when people do talk to legitimate combat veterans, they are often told the most important thing in life is being alive. This does not mean wasting it trying kill others in order to avoid being killed. Very soon, the issue of having served in the armed forces may become as heated as it did during, and after the Vietnam War. As may be expected, there are people that want to pretend they served in the military. With 20/20 hindsight, these people recognize that the young men and women that went off to war are in a position to command some acknowledgment from society. When making a decision to purchase military plaques it is very important to understand what you are buying, and why it is not always ethical for you to have and display them.
